I guess you couldn't do much about the background, but its colour is different enough from the main subject, so it's fine, at least for me. Well timed and focused too. I don't think it gets better with DOF for this kind of photos.

Excellent! Love it. I'd add a bit more contrast (as you don't have a white point), but that's a minor crit for an otherwise excellent photo.

Very nice John ... a wonderful capture of a beautiful animal. I enjoy the sheer brightness of this along with the detail of the fur. Sharp as a tack! I also enjoy the textures and colors in the foreground. A very nicely added element. I agree about the foliage in the background. It is a bit distracting as the rest of the background is much more blurred and of more muted colors. You should have gotten out your machete and cut these down before taking the photo. ;-)
